Today, history was made.

For the first time, an AFL grand final has been held outside the MCG.

And today, our Brisbane Lions have written their name bold into the history books by not only contesting Australia’s first ever AFLW Grand Final, but doing so in their home state.

Like every Queenslander, I am incredibly proud of the Brisbane Lions. Their passion and commitment was evident in every minute of the game today.

And finishing the season as the minor Premiers is an incredible achievement and an inspiration to young women and girls across Queensland.

I congratulate the Brisbane Lions and the inaugural champions Adelaide Crows on their ground breaking achievements, and I look forward to seeing women’s AFL continue to grow into the future.
