Renting Fairness Forum

With just under 40% of Queenslanders it is important that there is a system in place to protect their rights and provide a fair and balanced playing field for tenants. Unfortunately, right now the system is stacked against renters and it has gone on for too long.

The stats show that on average people who are renting will move every 13 months at a cost of $2,500 each time

People with mobility issues who need to find an accessible home for them to live in have no way of knowing if a home meets certain accessibility standards.

There are no minimum conditions for rental properties, meaning a landlord can rent out their property with no working oven, where the windows won't close or lock or the shower has no water pressure and if you speak up about these issues you have no guarantee that the landlord won't end your tenancy at the end of your term.

This creates a system where vulnerable people are forced to live in homes where the basic services and amenities don't work and they are too afraid to speak up about it.

The Palaszczuk Government is committed to taking action to bring fairness into the renting system but we can’t do it alone. We will need the support of the community to get these reforms over the line.

So, come along to the Springwood Renting Fairness Forum to find out how you can join the push to create a fairer renting system.
