The Member for Springwood, Mick de Brenni has welcomed the generous contributions made by our local community this Christmas. Today, Logan not-for-profit organisation, Youth and Family Services (YFS), has accepted the donation of Christmas Hampers meaning that for some families in Logan, Christmas will be a little brighter this year.
Mr de Brenni said “the spirit our local community has shown by donating literally thousands of dollars’ worth of goods, food, toys, cosmetics and so much more reflects the true meaning of Christmas in our community.
“It’s the season of giving, and the people of my electorate have truly put their hearts into this.”
The Member for Springwood facilitated this exchange between the community and YFS by holding five Christmas Charity Hamper Collection points over three weekends around the electorate in the areas of Rochedale South, Springwood, Loganholme, Daisy Hill and Cornubia.
Local community volunteer, Jim Sykes, said “it’s so gratifying to be the connection between the community and a local charity organisation like YFS.
“YFS helps families and people doing it tough, so it’s good to see so many people giving back.”
YFS CEO Cath Bartolo said she was overwhelmed by the kindness of the community. “At YFS we’re so heartened by the generosity of our local community and Member.
“We’ll be giving these goods to families who would otherwise be having a pretty lean Christmas. So many people are doing it tough this year so for us, Minister de Brenni, volunteers and the community coming together to share the generosity of Christmas is a wonderful gift,” she said.
Mick de Brenni said “not only community members like Jim, Carolyn and Bob who helped out with the collection of donations, but also every single person who chipped in really showed that Christmas and the season of giving is alive and well in our community.
“With the donations we’ve received over the past month, it’s a really great result for not just the families receiving the Christmas Hampers, but for everyone who helped out and gave too,” Mr de Brenni said.
“I hope to be able to carry on this tradition next year, and redouble our efforts so we can give even more people the opportunity to give – like so many did this Christmas,” the Member for Springwood said.
