This year, the Underwood Park Netball Association marks a significant milestone — its 40th anniversary. Over the past four decades, the association, or UPNA as it’s known to locals, has become a cornerstone of the local sporting community, fostering the love of netball and encouraging healthy competition among athletes of all ages.

Founded in 1985, Underwood Park Netball has seen tremendous growth, from its humble beginnings to a thriving hub for players, coaches, and families. Today, the association supports hundreds of members, offering opportunities for competitive play, social leagues, and junior development programs. The anniversary celebration is not just a reflection of the past, but also a look toward a bright future for netball in the region.

Behind every game, carnival, and training session are the dedicated volunteers who have kept the club running for four decades. From coaching and umpiring to organising fixtures, managing the canteen, and working tirelessly behind the scenes, these individuals have been the heart of UPNA’s success. Their commitment and generosity have built a strong foundation for the next generation of players.

Janet Coleman, from UPNA, says that without the support of volunteers, the association would not be in the position it is in today.

“It’s their time, passion, and commitment that have built this association into something bigger than just a game. They’ve built a culture where people feel welcomed, supported, and proud to be a part of UPNA” Janet said.

As Underwood Park Netball celebrates its 40th anniversary, the association reflects on the friendships, achievements, and growth it has facilitated within the local community. For the many families who have supported the association over the years, the milestone represents much more than a sporting achievement. It is a testament to the bonds formed and the positive impact sport has on the community.

With plans for future growth and new programs in the works, UPNA is set to continue its legacy as a key player in the region’s sporting landscape for years to come.
